Blackfriars is the benchmark for Sunspeed stallions since winning his first WA title three years ago

The Scenic Lodge champion attracted all the top judges at the Perth Magic Millions and his Top 5 on the leader-board will be trained by Neville Parnham (2), Lou & Dion Luciani, Peter Giadresco and Justin Warwick.

Parnham bought the Blackfriars three-quarter brother to his stable stars Playing God and God Has Spoken catalogued as Lot 77 for $110,000.  “He’s a very mature colt bred on the Blackfriars over Scenic cross,” Scenic Lodge’s Jeremy Smith said.  “Strong-boned, well-grown and with a touch of class.”

The Blackfriars – Scenic nick has already produced Eclair Surprise (G3 Eclipse Stakes) and Rosie Rocket (LR La Trice Classic & LR Starstruck Classic).

Rosie Rocket was prepared by Justin Warwick and he came back with an even better Blackfriars this season winning the $500,000 Perth Cup with Black Tycoon.

Those funds helped Warwick pay $72,500 for the Blackfriars – Card Queen filly at the Perth Magic Millions on Tuesday.  She is a younger half-sister to flying filly Karuta Queen.

Fellow south-west trainer Peter Giadresco outlaid $90,000 for the Blackfriars – French Sound colt.  His dam was a G2 Winterbottom Stakes winner and she has foaled two winners including the dam of Eclair Surprise.

Giadresco prepared Blackfriars gelding Full Reign for 6 wins up to Listed level in the 2012 Challenge Stakes at Ascot.

Scenic Lodge arrived at the Magic Millions with 25 yearlings and only one of them went back home to Muchea.  There were five second-crop yearlings by its emerging sire Universal Ruler and leading agent John Chalmers took a shine to his colts buying two for $42,000 and $35,000.
