The Team

Owner, David Smith
After farming in England for fifteen years David Smith migrated to Australia in 1970.  He spent the next 14 years living in Esperance where he established the farm supply business SBS Rural later to become IAMA Ltd. After owning a few mares and racehorses in the late 80’s and early 90’s as a hobby the step was taken to purchase Yaminga Stud (now Scenic Lodge) in 1996 and establish a major commercial enterprise.

David retired as Managing Director of IAMA Ltd in 1997 and commenced setting about improving the bloodlines at the stud and providing Western Australian Breeders access to some of Australia’s top performing sires.  The acquisition of the proven sire Scenic in 1999 from Colin Hayes and Robert Sangster turned out to an inspired purchase as his progeny earnings now exceed $84 million from progeny who won over 2700 individual races and were placed over 4500 times. The loss of Scenic in March 2005 was softened by the outstanding success being achieved by Blackfriars was also purchased from the late Robert Sangster, of Swettenham Stud in 2001. December  2017 saw the sad loss of WA’s 8 times  Champion Sire Blackfriars, a sad loss for the WA breeding Industry.  The 21 year-old son of Danehill shattered a shoulder after colic surgery.  Scenic Lodge is now fortunate to stand WA’s two leading Stallions: Snippetson and Universal Ruler(Son of Scenic) together with Dash for Cash.

General Manager, Jeremy Smith
Jeremy has been employed by Scenic Lodge for over 20 years in the role of General Manager. Previously Jeremy worked for local bloodstock company Goodwood Bloodstock as a Bloodstock Consultant before the company was  purchased by the Magic Millions.

Jeremy has played a enormous role in the success of the business and was involved in  securing some top stallions to stand with us including WA champion sires Scenic and Blackfriars.
