Scenic Lodge champion Blackfriars has achieved his best result at auction with a $330,000 filly at the Gold Coast Magic Millions.
His half-sister to Group 1 winning filly Delicacy was sold to Raffles Racing by Tyreel Stud on behalf of Scenic Lodge. The filly is also a half-sister to LR Belmont Guineas third Universal Law.
“She’s a great type and we were hoping she would be popular,” Scenic Lodge general manager Jeremy Smith said of Thursday’s career-best result. “I bought her dam Simply Wicked for $4,000 at the 2014 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale. She’s a well-bred Scenic mare and, at that stage, no-one had heard of Delicacy.”
Malaysian-based Raffles Racing also sold an Exceed And Excel colt from its Group 1 winning Scenic mare Episode to Aquis Farm for $550,000 at the Magic Millions.
Simply Wicked has an unraced 2yo colt by Al Maher named Piece D’Resistance with trainer Roy Rogers and Smith sent the mare to the Hunter Valley last year to be covered by Redoute’s Choice.
Blackfriars has 25 yearlings catalogued for next month’s Perth Magic Millions from Scenic Lodge and outside breeders De Grey Stud, Gervase Park, Dawson Stud, Toreby Park & Oakland Park.

Snippetson sires 12th stakes winner at Caulfield

Trainer Darren Weir bypassed the Magic Millions Cup to keep Kenjorwood in Melbourne for the Swettenham Summer Championships.
The Snippetson war-horse is in superb form after wins at Flemington and Caulfield in December.
Kenjorwood became the 12th stakes winner for Scenic Lodge stallion Snippetson when he shouldered 60kg to a narrow victory in the Listed Lord Stakes (1700m) on Boxing Day.
“He’s such a good racehorse with a real will to win,” Weir said at Caulfield. “He’s in great shape and when you get horses like this in form they can race up on the speed and tough it out. They make their own luck.”
Kenjorwood (7g Snippetson – Flying Diva by Flying Spur) was a $41,000 purchase for part-owner Leigh Winwood from Grenville Stud at the 2011 Tasmanian Magic Millions. He has won 10 races and been placed 17 times in 45 starts for earnings over $686,000.
Winning rider Brad Rawiller said he was up against it after a slow getaway. “He stumbled out of the gates so I had to press on. I know it didn’t look good but he settled into a rhythm and I was comfortable because he was the best horse in the race.”
Grenville Stud will offer a full-sister to Kenjorwood at 2017 Tasmanian Magic Millions in February. Their dam Flying Diva foaled a Written Tycoon filly in October.
Also in February, Snippetson has three colts catalogued for the Inglis Classic Sale and a filly from Gervase Park Stud at the Perth Magic Millions.
