SNIPPETSON TAKES LEAD IN WA 2YO SIRES TITLE

Snippetson has edged ahead in a thrilling race for the prestigious champion WA 2yo sires title which will conclude at the end of this month.  Impressive 2yo colt Coming Home flashed home to win the Silver Goblet in NSW and in doing so provided Snippetson with his 9th individual 2yr old winner this season ranking him 1st in WA and =9th in the nation in that category. Snippeton will also finish a comfortable 2nd on the overall WA Sires Premiership behind Blackfriars and nearly a million clear of his next rival. With the market demanding fast early running horses Snippetson who stands this season for $6,500 plus gst is the ideal Stallion to breed to this season with the lucrative Westspeed WA based stallion bonuses now applicable.

Melbourne-bound Bit Of Dash

with a bit of dash2Chris Bieg is rising up the training ranks in Adelaide and now he’s wants to make a mark in Melbourne with his promising filly With A Bit Of Dash.
The daughter of Scenic Lodge sire Dash For Cash was among South Australia’s leading two year-olds this season winning by 3 lengths at Morphettville before signing off with a fighting second to Morvada in the LR Oaklands Plate (1600m) in May.

The winner is being set for the G1 Victoria Derby and Bieg is quietly confident his filly will also make the grade at the spring carnival.  “She’s been back in work for a month and will start stepping up next week.  I’ve only been training for six years but I’ve found it really toughens them up going to Melbourne.”

Bieg’s Dash For Cash filly Dashitude made the transition in 2012.  “After winning at Morphettville, we took her across to score first-up at Caulfield.  She helped me get established and was a relatively cheap buy at the Adelaide Magic Millions.

“I’ve had a good run with Dash For Cash.  They cope with work and really put in on race day.”

With A Bit Of Dash is bred to get over ground through her dam Storm Esprit (Bel Esprit) who is related WA bred Group 1 winner Heroicity (STC The BMW & WATC Australian Derby).

“She’s well above average and Todd Pannell reckons the further she goes, the better,” Bieg said.  “I’m only going to give her a short spring campaign so we can bring her back at Christmas and get ready for the South Australian Oaks.”

Dash For Cash has another very smart 2yo in Queensland named Cash Dash.  The Steve O’Dea trained colt scored first-up at Eagle Farm on July 6 and won again at the Sunshine Coast last Sunday.

“He’s an impressive type but we won’t press on,” O’Dea said.  “We want to do the right thing by the horse.  He will have a break now and come back for some of the good 3yo races like the Vo Rogue Stakes and Gold Edition Stakes later this year.”

Scenic Lodge stands Dash For Cash and he is tremendous value at a $3,000 (plus gst) service fee.

Universal Rulers Sensational New Stakes Winner

military ReignAbout half an hour before they lined up in Saturday’s Beaufine Stakes at Belmont, in came the rain. Bucketed down.

It didn’t seem to bother Military Reign though who lived right up to her name with an explosive victory for trainer, Darren MacAuliffe, and her sire, Universal Ruler: racing away to score with a couple of lengths to spare.

“Universal Ruler’s sire, Scenic (71 stakes winners) produced a lot of winners who didn’t mind the softer going,” Scenic Lodge’s General Manager, Jeremy Smith, points out. “A lot of winners on all kinds of surfaces for that matter …”

Smith was naturally ecstatic with Military Reign’s performance, especially on the eve of another breeding season in which Universal Ruler will again play a pivotal role at Scenic Lodge.

“I’m very happy with the way things are going for Universal Ruler,” Smith adds. “He had a bit of slow start but now there are a lot of numbers coming through. Two years ago he covered 127 mares and was the most popular stallion in Western Australia.  Consequently, the quality of mares have vastly improved as well.

“Military Reign has now won 8 races and around $530,000 in stakes, while the full brother, Military Ruler is pretty handy also, winning five and nearly $300,000.

“They (the Universal Rulers) really are jump and run type horses. Darren has done a great job with the filly – he not only trains Military Reign and Military Ruler but he bred them both, too.  And he raced the sire.”

MacAuliffe revealed that Military Reign would now be tipped out for a spell and brought back with the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes in mind.  “She doesn’t need a lot of work but I think she’s got a ton of ability and has accumulated the highest prizemoney for a filly under the Westspeed bonus system over here.

“It’s also great for Universal Ruler – he was probably underrated a bit at first by breeders, but he’s really starting to show what he’s capable of.  We never really got to see the best of him as a racehorse. Both he and Scenic Blast came from the same crop and Scenic Blast went to international success.

“I broke in Universal Ruler and he won three stakes races for the stable and we eventually took him to Singapore where he ran in the KrisFlyer Sprint.  The plan was to take him onto England, but in the KrisFlyer he was up against Takeover Target and Magnus, who were at the top of their game and then he had to practically jump over Absolute Champion who had fallen in the race.

“He might not have had a the best of luck as a racehorse but hopefully that luck is about to turn as a sire.”

Snippetson colt wins Silver Goblet

Coming in hot

Coming in Hot

Widely-travelled colt Coming In Hot has given Scenic Lodge sire Snippetson more breathing space at the top of the WA 2YO premiership table.
Coming In Hot flew home to win the Silver Goblet (1100m) at Narromine on Monday in a three-way photo-finish from I’m Imogen (I Am Invincible) and Squared (Strada).

Initially trained by Brent Stanley in Victoria, he was sent to Brisbane and placed on debut behind top colt Nikitas on December 5.  But a Magic Millions Classic campaign was derailed after a below-par performance back at Doomben a fortnight later.

After Stanley was disqualified earlier this year, Coming In Hot transferred to Paul Banks and finished last bar one in a Ballarat maiden on June 1.  Subsequently sold to Tru Blu Bloodstock, he surfaced in NSW with trainer Justin Stanley and, remarkably, was allowed to go out at $12 in the Silver Goblet.

“It’s always a thrill to win a race like this,” Stanley said.  “I was virtually just having a look at him today.  I might give him another start but he’s very immature and needs a bit of time.”

Coming In Hot is the fourth winner from Umatilly (Umatilla), a Sandown Lakeside winner for owner-trainer Jim Marconi, and cost $25,000 as a yearling at the 2015 Magic Millions National Sale.

Snippetson has sired 9 juvenile winners of 11 races this season.  He stands for a $6,500 (plus gst) service fee at Scenic Lodge.

Blackfriars banks PB at Rosehill

Erika inside railsBlackfriars mare Erika sent her sire through $5 million in seasonal earnings for the first time at Rosehill on Saturday.

The Goulburn based raider was aided by inside runs before Blake Shinn angled her into the clear for a late victory in the TAB Highway Hcp (1800m).  “I followed Just Good into the straight and got clear when it rolled out,” Shinn explained.  “I gave her a little squeeze and she extended nicely.”

It was Erika’s third win this season and, ironically, she won a Canberra maiden on July 31 last year to close out a career-best season for Blackfriars with progeny earnings of $4.49 million.  He sailed past that amount when Black Heart Bart won the G1 Goodwood at Morphettville in May.

“She’s come back more mature and it’s the first time she’s had no interruptions,” trainer John Bateman said.  “She’s always had plenty of ability but we just had to get her right.”

Erika (4m Blackfriars – Europium by Metal Storm) is a half-sister to Group 1 winner Moment Of Change and was bred by Sovereign Stud owner Tracy Knotts.  Her second-dam Kosleta (Zabaleta) won the 1996 R J Peters Stakes.

Blackfriars (Blackfriars) is within a month of clinching his sixth WA sires’ premiership in a row for Scenic Lodge operators David and Jeremy Smith.  He stands for a $12,000 (plus gst) service fee.

Timely spearhead for Snippetson

Lim's Sincere The topsy-turvy WA 2YO sires’ table took another turn when Snippetson assumed the lead on Saturday.

The Scenic Lodge resident sired a quinella for trainer Richard Jolly when Time Out defeated Bangs in the $100,000 Schweppes Plate (1050m) at Morphettville.

Snippetson is the third ladder leader this week.  Alfred Nobel was in charge before defending champion Oratorio (Aus) led home a Belmont quinella with Sweet Ora and Carnelian on Wednesday.

WA 2YO PREMIERSHIP

$376,950   Oratorio
$363,425   Alfred Nobel
$360,825   Demerit
$291,575   War Chant

“We made a conscious effort to target races like the Schweppes Plate,” Jolly said.  “It’s good money and our focus has been to have a big hand in them.

“Time Out had the perfect run and was really strong on the line.  We will probably give him one more run, while Bangs will go for a break.  She was in a bit of a mood today and missed the kick which was probably the difference between winning and losing.”

A homebred for Mark Crawford, he had been runner-up three time before a half-length victory on Saturday.  His older brother Quite Right won 8 races and $390,000 in Perth for Crawford and trainer Paul Jordan.

Time Out (2g Snippetson – Quite Right by Dolphin Street) hails from the family of My Serene (Sir Tristram) who was one of the best fillies seen out in Perth during the 1980s.  Trained by Frank Maynard for Keith Biggs, she won a Strickland Stakes, Burgess Queen Stakes, Belmont Oaks and Sheila Gwynne Quality.

Snippetson (Snippets) started the weekend on a winning note with Lim’s Sincere in Singapore on Friday evening.  “He looked the standout in the parade ring,” apprentice jockey Salim Yusoff said.  “I took a sit and, when I let him go, he was just too good.  I just pointed him in the right direction.”

The speedy three year-old has now won three races and AUD 154,000 since making $30,000 at the 2014 Magic Millions HIT Sale.

Snippetson (Snippets) stands for a $6,500 (plus gst) service fee at Scenic Lodge Stud.
