Snippetson filly My Poppette will be spelled and set for the G1 VRC Oaks after opening her black-type account at Flemington on Saturday.

Despite racing three-wide without cover, she toughed out a one-length victory in the LR Anzac Day Stakes (1400m) at headquarters.  “It was a big ask from a wide barrier but Mark (Zahra) was pretty confident,” co-trainer Cindy Alderson said.  “He let her stride forward and she hit the front pretty early but had enough left.

“We’ve always felt the filly will get over ground and she will be given an opportunity in races like the Thousand Guineas and VRC Oaks.”

My Poppette (2f Snippetson – Brompton’s Choice by Runyon) held a convincing advantage passing the post ahead of Lizard Island (Sebring) and Petracca (Starcraft) on Saturday.  She is the 8th stakes winner by Snippetson who has been signed to stand at Scenic Lodge this year.

“I rolled across and she did the rest,” Zahra said.  “You couldn’t ask her to do much more so far, she had a fairly tough run and won that quite well.  Why not put her away and see how she goes in the spring?”

My Poppette had won on debut win at Pakenham and followed up with an impressive second behind Black Vanquish at Flemington on April 11.  Trained by Alderson with her father Colin, the filly was bred by her mother Lyn and is raced in partnership with Mary Henzell.

The Anzac Stakes winner comes from a classic winning family.  She is from a half-sister to the dam of Neo (G2 Wellington Guineas) and other close relations include Delago Brom (G1 Australian Guineas) and his dam Brompton Cross (G2 Edward Manifold Stakes).

Snippetson has sired 8 juvenile winners this season and he will stand for a $6,500 (plus gst) service fee at Scenic Lodge.

Scenic Lodge Announce Stallion Fees For 2015.

Scenic Lodge has placed a $6,500 (plus gst) fee on Snippetson for his first Sunspeed book alongside champion sire Blackfriars this year.

Snippetson is a proven, young stallion with an exciting future in Western Australia.  “His stock are very commercial and he produces what the market wants – fast, early maturing winners,” Scenic Lodge general manager Jeremy Smith said.  “He’s sired 8 individual 2YO winners this season and that ranks him in the Australian Top 5.

“He’s the commercial sire the local industry has been demanding.”

Blackfriars is on track to claim an amazing fifth WA Champion Sire award in a row this season.  He currently holds huge across-the-board leads for winners (55), wins (90), stakes wins (10) and prizemoney ($3.25 million).  “He’s been the dominant sire in WA since Scenic,” Smith declared.  “And he remains accessible to as many local breeders as possible at $12,000.”

Universal Ruler is the hottest young stallion in the State and he’s also a Top 10 second-season sire in Australia.  He has sired 19 winners of 23 races at a 50% strike-rate which is the best in the nation.

A stakes winning son of Scenic, he was the busiest WA stallion by covers last season with a book of 127 mares.  That popularity was confirmed when the owners of Matchmaker Stakes runner-up Need A Lift picked him for a free service.

Dash For Cash continues churning out high numbers of quality winners (320 individual winners) at a very high 65% winners-to-runners percentage.  He’s a proven sire in Australian conditions.

“We’re delighted with our roster for 2015 and we’re extremely excited to introduce Snippetson,” Smith continued.  “To stand him with multiple champion Blackfriars, hot prospect Universal Ruler and prolific sire Dash For Cash makes it our strongest ever roster.

“All our stallions are proven and we have priced their fees to meet the current market conditions.”

BLACKFRIARS (Danehill) – $12,000
SNIPPETSON (Snippets) –  $6,500
UNIVERSAL RULER (Scenic) – $5,500
DASH FOR CASH (Secret Savings) – $4,000
All service fees (plus gst)

My Poppette firing for Snippetson

Incoming Scenic Lodge sire Snippetson is firing in the juvenile division and Melbourne filly My Poppette is among 7 of his two year-olds winners this season. My Poppette

Trained by Colin and Cindy Alderson, she won on debut at Pakenham and then ran a bottler when runner-up to top colt Black Vanquish at Flemington last Saturday.

My Poppette (2f Snippetson – Brompton’s Choice by Runyon) was nominated to back up in the $150,000 VOBIS Gold Ingot at Caulfield this weekend but she will be reserved for the LR Anzac Day Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on Saturday week.

“We’ve had a few by Snippetson – they’re all decent-sized, solid horses and can handle work,” Cindy Alderson said.  “They do have a bit of fire in the belly and we use a barrier-blanket with My Poppette.

“They can sprint and they’re sound.  I guess he got swamped with all the new stallions in the Hunter Valley and he will be suited to Western Australia.”

The Aldersons also raced Snippetson gelding That’s The One who won the G3 C S Hayes Stakes at Flemington in 2012 before finishing fourth in the G1 Australian Guineas.

Snippetson is a Top 5 stallion on the Australia 2YO winners premiership this season behind Exceed and Excel, Snitzel, Not a Single Doubt and I Am Invincible.  He got off to a quick start with October winners Pierrette (Randwick) and Hot Snippety (Doomben).

Scenic Lodge will stand Blackfriars, Universal Ruler, Snippetson and Dash For Cash this season and will announce service fees next week.

Scenic Lodge signs Snippetson

snippetson headshot_400In a major coup for the local breeding industry, Scenic Lodge is proud to announce high-profile Hunter Valley stallion Snippetson has been secured to stand in Western Australia.

In a deal brokered by local bloodstock agent Grant Burns, Scenic Lodge has acquired a majority shareholding in the proven son of Champion Australian sire Snippets.

“Snippetson is a very exciting addition to our stallion ranks,” Burns said this week.  “He sires cracking types – just like himself – and they have always been well received at the yearling sales.

“Two of his colts sold for $70,000 at the Perth Magic Millions last month and a filly made $50,000.  They were standouts and he’s already had plenty of success with his stock that have already raced over here like Rebelson, Right Time, Ave the Snip and Precious Snippets.”

Snippetson has been popular with breeders and has big numbers coming through the ranks with 143 rising two year-olds.

Still only 13, Snippetson has sired 252 individual winners at a very high 63% strike-rate.  He’s a prime example of the typical Australian stallion that produces tough, fast, strong types that suit our tracks and conditions.

There have been 7 stakes winners to date – Snippets Land claimed the latest black-type in the LR National Sprint (1400m) in Canberra on March 8.  The Peter Snowden trained four year-old hasn’t missed banking a cheque in all 12 starts!

Snippetson went through the $2 million mark in progeny earnings this season when his two year-old My Poppette christened Pakenham’s new racecourse last Thursday.  The Colin Alderson trained filly won’t be long trekking to town after sprinting home to win a 1200m maiden on debut.

“We identified Snippetson as the ideal stallion for the WA market some time ago,” Scenic Lodge general manager Jeremy Smith said.  “He provides great depth to our roster and Sunspeed breeders can book into him knowing he’s a proven commercial stallion.”

Snippetson will provide Scenic Lodge with a very strong roster this season.  The Muchea nursery is home to WA Champion Blackfriars who has won the last four Sunspeed titles.

Associate sire Universal Ruler is the hottest young stallion in the State with 19 second-crop winners from just 32 starters this season.  And Dash For Cash continues to churn out the winners – he has sired the winners of 46 races and they have earned over $808,000.   Service fees for all four Scenic Lodge stallions will be announced in April.Snippetson1
